Enterprise education is all about helping young people to develop skills to enhance their life chances and contribute to raising their aspirations.
The main focus...
Business
This is the ability to understand how businesses operate, but also how to make informed choices surrounding the products and services that businesses have to offer. It is about understanding the wider economy – this may seem scary stuff, but how do young people know how the world of work will impact on their personal circumstances? Enterprising schools develop innovative ways in which to engage not only the pupils in school, but the local business community.
Financial Capability
Financial capability is the ability to manage your own finances. We need to encourage and teach young people to be questioning and informed consumers of financial services. Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of financial capability involves thinking about money, credit, investment, budgeting, personal finances, insurance to name but a few examples.
Enterprise Capability
Enterprise capability is the skills which give us the ability to handle uncertainty and respond positively to change, create and implement new ides and ways of doing things, take risks and act on them. They are the qualities which make people more employable as many of these skills are transferable into the workplace. For instance, time management, team-working, communication and trustworthiness are all skills that are the top of the list of employers wishes. These skills and qualities are rated as equally important to academic qualifications by most employers. Many employers state that they are interested in the attitude and aptitude of their future workforce.
